Searched for him in the IGI in the range 1775-1795.
This search resulted in 11 IGI records that were extracted from the OPR and 2 of these were in St Vigeans. One of these was 1793, a bit too young. The 1785 birth was selected.
Other discounted possibilities were born in Laurencekirk, Craig, Kinneff & Catterline, St Cyrus, Fetteresso, Kinnell, Inverkeilor and Montrose; all within a short distance of Auchmithie so certainly possible.
The selected birth was in the right place at the right time but it may not be the correct one.
